William Pierce
PhD In Bigotry

Willaim Pierce was a teacher at Oregon State University in the early 1960s, joined the John Birch Society, moved to Washington, DC in 1966 and joined with George Lincoln Rockwell, the founder and leader of the American Nazi Party. Rockwell was assassinated in 1967 and Pierce became one of the principal leaders of the National Socialist White People's Party, the successor to the ANP. In 1970, Pierce quit the NSWPP and joined with Willis Carto in the National Youth Alliance.

National Alliance

Pierce left Carto's National Youth Alliance when Carto accused him of stealing Liberty Lobby's mailing list. Pierce retained control of the NYA and renamed it to the National Alliance, which has a publication called the National Vanguard and record companies Resistance Records and Cymophane Records which further the ideas and music of neo-Nazis and skinheads. In 1985, Pierce moved the National Alliance from Arlington,VA to a farm in West Virginia. Police have speculated that some of the money Pierce used to pay for the West Virginia compound came from bank and armored car robberies committed by the white supremacist terrorist gang "The Order", which is composed of National Alliance members.

The Turner Diaries

In 1978, Pierce wrote a book called The Turner Diaries, using the pen name Andrew Macdonald. The white supremacist, anti-government book is a "diary" of fictional character Earl Turner, who joins an underground resistance movement after the "Jew-Negro conspiracy" completed its overthrow of the United States government. This is the literature that inspired Timothy McVeigh, the man convicted for the Oklahoma City bombing. (McVeigh had a copy of the book with him when he was arrested.) The book details how to blow up a government building.
